Nothing is as relaxing as a good bath. Sitting in the water and letting your worries go is like mediation for people. But if you want to relax, you want to make sure the temperature is just right.
More importantly, the temperature of the water can be dangerous to infants. Obviously, water that’s too hot can cause burns to infants and adults as well. Water that’s too cold, however, can cause your child’s blood vessels to shut down so heat can be redirected to their core.
But even if you aren’t bathing an infant and it’s you who is taking a bath, you still want to pay attention to the temperature.
What temperature should a Bath be?
It’s usually recommended to have the water be a degree or two higher than your body temperature. The average body temperature for a human is 98.6/37. That would mean have the temperature be between 99.6-100.6 or 37-38.
Keep in mind, not everyone is the same. Some people may want the temperature to be higher and some people may want the temperature to be lower.
It’s all about your personal preference and what you find to be the most soothing. But if you are looking for a place to start, try a degree or two higher than your body temperature.
Why is that the recommended temperature of Bath water?
The main reason that’s the recommended amount is that it’s warm. As human beings, we tend to like the feeling of something warm around us. Like when you put on some socks that just came out of the dryer. Or when it’s cold outside and you walk into a heated building. It’s all relaxing for us.
It’s also recommended because it’s not cold. When the water is cold it takes away your relaxation. That’s because your body is trying to adjust to the cold and is working harder to keep your body temperature at a safe level.
That’s not to say a cold bath can’t be relaxing. Some people prefer taking cold baths/showers over hot ones because they find that more relaxing. It’s whatever you prefer.
This is also recommended because it’s not too hot. When the water is too hot, it can leave burn marks and blisters on your skin. Plus, getting burned doesn’t feel good.
That’s what makes this temperature work so well for most people. It’s not too hot and it’s not too cold.
Have a thermometer handy
Having a thermometer will give you a better estimate of what the temperature is. It also helps you from burning yourself as you don’t have to worry about touching the water. If you don’t have a thermometer, then use your elbow to touch the water.
This is the safest way to feel how hot the water is without hurting yourself.
Enjoy your bath!
Hopefully, after reading all of this, you will be able to find that perfect temperature for you to take a relaxing bath after a long day. After all, there’s nothing quite as relaxing as taking a nice bath.
